Magazine Evaluation

Magazine evaluation
I was asked to create a magazine that would suite the target audience that it was aimed at which were teenage girls ages from 11-16. The initial aims were to make a magazine that was suitable for girls and would include lots of interesting pieces, have suitable colours in it. The magazine had also had to include lots of pictures, which our survey showed. These aims were met by including more pictures than the main articles about it. My aim was also to include a famous celebrity (which was made up). This aim was met by doing a double page spread all about the famous person.
Also the double page spread has got appropriate codes and conventions. The double page spread has got the name written at top in big, bold letters of the person that the article is about. It also has about 4 images of the person. The article is layered in an appropriate way. Also the back ground shows that it is girly because it is using leopard print. The font is used italic, and it looks really feminine. And the colours, as in the front cover, are used pink and black.
This is the horoscope page and these pages appeal to my target audience because the colour of the back ground is layered in pink colour. There is al so images of the horoscope signs in there, because in the survey, it was said that there should be a number of pictures included in the magazine. Also I created the horoscope page because girls like to read about horoscopes and about what ‘stars’ tell about them.
The person in the image is always using direct mode of address. I have represented the person as being confident, happy person who has believe in herself.  She is also represented as someone who has also got fame and money.
The double page article is about a famous girl that became a model. The message of the article is to give the audience more information about the model and get to know more about her personal life.
The shops that my magazine would be sold at would be probably corner shops. This would be because lots of teenagers go there and it would be seen more. It would also be in stores like Costcutters or Best-One. These shops are often visited by young girls who are going to the shop before or after school. My magazine would be published monthly.  My magazine would have an online edition.  The online website would have their own chat room, there would be some topics that people could share their ideas about, have things to discuss about. The online version would be update more often, there would be more stuff added to it but also all the stuff from the magazine would be kept in it. The advantages of having an online edition are more people reading it and getting engaged with it. The online web site could be published on facebook/twitter and it would be known more amongst friends.
I think our magazine images are original and based on nowadays types of pictures.  I have used a mixture of original and found images.  To use these images I had to get permission of the image holder. I got the images from Google.
The two codes of practice that would apply to my magazine would be Accuracy and Harassment.  Accuracy has been applied because the interview with the person and the information that was found out wasn’t exaggerated. Harassment would be applied as well because I haven’t harassed my interviewer to tell me information and I haven’t taken pictures of him/her without their permission.
In conclusion, our magazines strengths are the colour of the magazine, the layout and the pictures. The weaknesses could be the background colours and maybe the colours of the font are a bit bold. The magazine meets my target audience needs by putting all the information that the audience (teenage girls) would love to see in a magazine.
